Longshot Interactive taken over by Aspect; Shift of AERL to Sands Cotai; Macau’s VIP market – the big revenue generator

It is strongly believed by all concerned that the gambler community belonging to the middle class has a great impact upon the bazaars of Asia. The operators playing in this particular region would be interested to satisfy their valued clients in all respects, through effective and culturally oriented content in particular. The gaming activities in Macau contribute greatly to its income and with the same in their mind, the operators in the gambling sector are focusing on electronic as well as slot machines.

Aspect Gaming (Macau) Ltd.’s chief executive officer, Justin Nguyen revealed that they have recently taken over Longshot Interactive, the casino games manufacturer from Las Vegas that would facilitate the foundation for Asia’s video poker through its own baccarat alternatives. It is noteworthy that the former, i.e. Aspect supplies variants of gaming devices. Nothing about the take over agreement has been revealed but Ameesh Patel, the CEO of Longshot and its other four other top executives would be there with the advisory body of Aspect. They are Seth Schorr, John Lin, Ofir Ventura and Jeffrey Fine.

Lam Pou, the chairman of Asia Entertainment & Resources Ltd. (AERL), the junket operator of Macau has revealed about shifting of their Venetian Macao VIP room to a new space at Sands Cotai Central. One extra table, individual enclosures and three gaming tables would be put up at the new room. Pou, the excited chairman said that their shift to the Sands Cotai would enable them to develop improved services for the clients and also facilitate the shareholders with value added features. Undoubtedly, the value of their venture has been challenged by the stakeholders because of the downward trend on the part of AERL for a considerable time during the year after it went on with squeezing the mainland agents in terms of credit. That could be relaxed by AERL during the progression of the year, say the forecasters. The year 2013 is expected to bring fortunes to AERL that hopes to reap two-fold revenues from the Cotai properties through their move to Sands Cotai Central. However, other casinos of Macau could be satisfied with single-digit revenues, say the analysts. The sale of shares by the NASDAQ-listed AERL could generate $150m.

The Cotai strip has on it the Melco Crown’s City of Dreams and Galaxy Macau while the other VIP rooms of AERL are located at Casino downtown and Galaxy Entertainment’s Star World Hotel

It is only for the second time that 69.3 percent of the enclave’s fourth quarter income has been generated by the VIP market of Macau. In fact, the VIPs may not be willing to develop the pay out of Macau because of the fall of funds exchanged through antique and art auctions on the mainland of China with about one percent of Chinese being conventional and unrestricted at spending, say the uncertain forecasters at Jefferies Group. But David Bain of Sterne Age is of the view that the GDP performance dating back to the first quarter of 2009 and the income through the VIP segment of Macau are related through ninety percent association. Highest rank of production activity was reported through the index maintained by HSBC China Purchasing Managers the previous month, the basis of Bain’s theory. Anyway, records of the past six months could be relied upon for an appropriate assessment.
