Jamaica okays gambling bill, six in the race for Philadelphia casino license

After a long gap, the Jamaica authorities have finally agreed to allow incorporated resort casino properties to open their doors for the public in the state that had already cleared the laws two years ago for establishment of up to three such facilities. However, the last Friday saw the approval of the legislation that permitted the nation for giving acceptance for the casino license applications and suggestions of the developers.

The bill was approved by the House of Representatives, giving it their validity. Presently, Jamaica is home only to slot machines in few hundreds that are enjoyed by the fans at some tourist points or hotels. The casino plans came to the surface in 2008, as announced by Prime Minister Bruce Golding; said Senator Noel Sloley who failed to understand the slow process that was being adopted by the state to give a genuine treatment for the gaming industry. He said that it looks like that they were afraid of their accomplishment. He added that they fail to get the things implemented after announcing the same.

Officials at the Wynn Resorts have confirmed that they would go ahead with their applications for the licenses for casinos in Philadelphia and documents in this regard would be submitted by fifteenth of this month. A regulation for two city casinos was moved and cleared in 2004 but only one casino namely SugarHouse became a reality. Wynn could not keep its word for establishing a casino in the city of brotherly love in April 2010. Now it has come up with an idea to build a 150k-square-foot gaming hub on 60 acres of sea front land.

Along with Wynn, there are five other such concerns too that are keenly interested to grab one such betting license. Penn National Gaming, Maryland’s Cordish Group and the lively Greenwood Gaming are aiming at building facilities in the Stadium districts.

Separate casino facilities for the central city area have since been suggested by Bart Blatstein, the neighboring developer of the Goldenberg Group and the Parkway Group, the parking facility company.
