Chuvit Kamolvisit, the Rak Thailand Party leader and his supporters & reporters were prevented by many residents who blocked their way on Monday to enter a casino, known as Kingphet casino situated at Phetchaburi Soi 5, or Soi Kingphet. Chuvit said that the owner of the casino is in direct links with the relatives of the one in Dubai, a likely reference to former premier Thaksin Shinawatra.
In fact, some people had asked him to find out about the illegal casino that is being operated. The INN news agency reporter who accompanied Chuvit was threatened by the residents and they forced him to destroy the footage of the area, recorded by him. Chuvit added that he would appeal Shinawatra, Thaksins sister to find out with her relatives if they know about the gambling den.
A movie, containing pictures of gamblers involved in the gaming activities taken with the help of a hidden camera on Monday night were shown by Mr. Chuvit. However, Kamronwit Thoopkrachang, the Metropolitan Police Bureau chief said that he didnt know about any casino in the soi. He asked the public to give information about the casino, if they knew anything. Chuvit said that he was not surprised with Kamronwits denial about Kingphet casinos activities because the police could never find it out. He added that he would make available the evidence to the city police and also utilize it against the government during a new censure debate. Chalerm Yubamrung, the Deputy Prime Minister said though the police conduced several raids, yet the casinos continue their activities.
